Secretary and Treasurer
Arlene Sciarappa
Arlene Sciarappa started her environmental journey in 1978, joining the Morris County Safe Energy Alternative’s opposition to nuclear energy facilities. A graduate of Rutgers University with an MEd in English, she taught English for 17 years before becoming the Project Director for the Keansburg 21st Century Learning Center for 10 years, where she oversaw one of the first school sponsored gardens.
A resident of Neptune City since 1980, she served on the Neptune City School Board for 9 years, and became an avid soccer mom, PTO variety show chairman, and Girl Scout Leader for her 4 children and all of their friends.
Her interests evolved into protecting the Shark River when her husband joined the SRCC. Soon she was coordinating cleanups, planning fundraisers, conducting public outreach efforts, writing newsletters, advocating for monitoring water quality at public meetings, and assisting with horseshoe crab tagging. She especially enjoys viewing the eagles, herons, ducks, and other waterfowl from her home by the Shark River.
Currently the SRCC secretary since 2010, Arlene loves cooking, walks on the beach, her 5 grandchildren, and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team.
